“Up until 3 years ago, I was just like most people who live in a HDB apartment, having split unit air conditioning for all four of our bedrooms. Like most people, we had been paying $150 a year for each fan coil unit adding up to $600 a year for 4 split units. The service people would come only once a quarter for each service cycle. For this service, they would do a dry brush and vacuuming of our fan coil and blower blades which did very like for the aircon in recovering the airflow. Despite the contract cleaning, every six months, we had to do a full chemical wash to get decent cooling from our aircon units. Each full chemical cleaning would cost another $150 for each fan coil unit, adding to a total of $1,800 of maintenance cost for the whole year to keep us cool for the entire year.
